Lainie + Mack at Rockwell on the River

As a wedding photographer, there’s something uniquely magical about Labor Day weekend weddings. It’s a time when summer is on its last breath, the air is warm but not too hot, and the energy of the season is alive and vibrant. This year, I had the incredible privilege of capturing a stunning wedding at Rockwell on the River in Chicago, and let me tell you — it was a day to remember.

The ceremony was held indoors at Rockwell on the River and the venue itself is a hidden gem in the heart of Chicago. Nestled right along the river, this venue blends industrial charm with natural beauty. The exposed brick, large windows, and wooden beams offer a stunning canvas for any couple’s dream wedding. Add in the river’s shimmering water and the hustle and bustle of Chicago in the background, and it’s nothing short of perfection.

Lainie and Mack’s event team and florist, Everlie & Co. and HMR Designs, did an incredible job with the setup. The greenery intertwined with elegant floral arrangements, and the ceremony arch framed the couple perfectly as they said their “I dos.” It was a dream setting — a seamless blend of natural beauty and urban elegance.

One of the things I love most about Labor Day weekend weddings is the possibility of capturing the perfect golden hour lighting indoors as well as out. That soft, warm glow as the sun begins to set is just unmatched. The sun illuminated the space in a way that allowed us to capture details in a natural light setting. Some of the most magical images of the evening were captured as the sun faded and candlelight set the room aglow – sparking a dance of sunlight and shadows in front of our camera lens.

As night fell, the space transformed. The indoor reception area was decorated with romantic candlelight, creating an intimate and warm atmosphere. The vibe was laidback but elevated, and you could see that the guests were ready to party. From the first dance to the heartwarming toasts, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. The night flowed effortlessly with dancing, laughter, and all the magic that comes with a celebration of love.

From my perspective as a photographer, capturing a wedding at Rockwell on the River was an absolute dream. The venue itself offers so many opportunities for stunning shots, whether it’s the river, against the urban backdrop, or highlighting the beautiful architectural details. But what truly made this day unforgettable was the love between Lainie and Mack. Every smile, every touch, every stolen moment between them was a testament to the incredible bond they share.
