Courtney & Cam // Retro Chic Tennis Session

We love it when our couple’s engagement session centers around locations that are deeply personal to them. Courtney and Cam chose to pair two different downtown Chicago locations and outfits to help illustrate their story. Early October weather in Chicago is often still beautifully warm and Courtney and Cam’s session was no exception.

The first leg of their engagement session was captured at Lincoln Park Zoo’s Nature Boardwalk. What years ago humbly began as a manmade pond is now a lush, natural, prairie-style garden filled with native plants and wildlife. The Nature Boardwalk is a perennial favorite location for our Chicago couples’ engagement sessions for ample reason. The Boardwalk itself is a half mile trail with tranquil views of native wildlife, and the bridge offers spectacular views of the Chicago skyline. Perhaps even more famous than the trail itself is the Peoples Gas Pavilion, commonly known as The Honeycomb. Cam and Courtney used to live downtown and loved how the architectural interest of the Honeycomb contrasted with the scenic landscape. One location offered near endless photo opportunities rich with visual interest.

We love that Courtney and Cam saved their less formal and more personal look for the final leg of their engagement session. Refined casual style quickly transitioned to retro chic as they donned their well-loved tennis shoes, tennis rackets, and coordinated wear. Both Courtney and Cam are athletic, and Cam might joke that Courtney is even more so. Afterall, Courtney golfs, plays tennis, and dons the role of commissioner for their fantasy football league. The less formal attire inspired a playful atmosphere. With little to no photographer direction needed, the camera lens melted into the background as Cam and Courtney moved around the court with familiarity and playfulness. Cam’s intentional and thoughtful nature shines through the photos in the way he drapes his arm around Courtney and makes her laugh. Some of our favorite shots featured Cam hanging over the net to sneak a kiss to Courtney, the two of them casually strolling together courtside, and some flirtation near the fenceline. Their retro chic vision truly called for this session to be captured on film. Each frame authentically wraps the entire session with a bow. As the sun set and golden hour’s magic surrounded the court, Cam and Courtney’s dream session came to life. Each frame helping tell another moment in their love story.
